The Porsche RS Spyder will be entering the 2008 motorsport season in two different versions: In the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) the sports prototypes in the LMP2-class must have a minimum weight of 800 kg. Last year the racing cars developed and built at Porsche’s R&D Centre in Weissach weighed 775 kilos. Tank capacity remains 90 litres, as before. The regulations require an even greater increase in the weight of the RS Spyder in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and in the races of the Le Mans Series (LMS), where the cars entered in the LMP2 category must weigh at least 825 kilograms. At the same time the weight limit for the LMP1 cars is being decreased by 25 kg to 900 kilos, with the tank capacity of the LMP2 cars being reduced by ten litres from the previous year to 80 litres.

“The LMP2 cars still have more than 200 bhp less power than the cars in the LMP1 class. In Europe the difference in weight between the two categories has been halved from 150 to now just 75 kilograms. The reduction in tank capacity means at least one additional stop for refuelling in a normal LMS race over a distance of 1,000 km. This will put RS Spyder customers in Europe far behind the LMP1 teams”, states Porsche’s Racing Director Hartmut Kristen. “In the ALMS our chances for an overall win in the 2008 season are also smaller due to the 25 kilos extra weight, but LMP2 cars will still be able on some tracks to make life difficult for the far more powerful LMP1 cars. So I am happy that IMSA in the USA, in determining the specifications for the LMP2 cars, has taken a decision for the fans and for our sport as a whole.“

The 911 GT2 will share its underpinnings with the 911 Turbo, but it will feature larger air intakes at the front, a larger rear wing and a souped up engine, with 50 ps more than the standard Turbo: power output will be 530 ps at 6,500 rpm, maximum torque will be 680 Nm between 2,200 and 4,500 rpm.

Weight has been kept down to 1,440 kg and the 911 GT2 boasts performance data considerably better than the turbo: 3.7 seconds from 0-100 km/h with a top speed of 329 km/h. Traction is rear wheel drive only, with a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Porsche TechArt GT street topping 630 horsepower and an equally-amazing 600+ lb-ft of torque, the 0-60 claim of 3.2 seconds sounds quite reasonable, if not conservative. The Porsche TechArt GT street top end is well over 200 mph. In fact, TechArt claims the car’s top speed is 214 mph with its power upgrades and new aero body kit.

With its 2001 TechArt GTstreet based on the Porsche 911 Turbo of the 996 model series, TechArt Automobildesign ( www.techart.de ) created one of the fastest and most powerful street-legal sports cars of its time. The next evolutionary stage of this fascinating concept celebrates is now available: The new TechArt GTstreet, based on the 911 Turbo of the latest 997 series, starts at 245,000 Euros MSRP.

Like the predecessor the new GTstreet edition centers on a powerful engine: The 3.6-liter twin-turbo flat engine is modified by the TechArt engine specialists and now develops 630 hp / 463 kW at 6,800 rpm, up from standard 480 hp / 353 kW. Peak torque increases from 620 Nm to 820 Nm at 4,500 rpm.

The TechArt TA 097/T3 engine conversion comprises two special VTG turbochargers, a new air box with sport air filter, high-performance manifolds, intercoolers and a stainless-steel sport exhaust system with high-performance catalysts. The precise optimal interaction of all modifications is ensured by a newly programmed engine management system.

Power is transferred to all four wheels via a modified transmission with TechArt gear-throw shortening.

Thus equipped the TechArt GTstreet delivers performance that firmly places it among the world’s fastest sports cars: 0 – 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds, 200 km/h after just 10.9 seconds and a top speed of 345 km/h speak volumes.

The body kit for the TechArt GTstreet was created in the wind tunnel, and offers an optimal symbiosis of aerodynamic downforce, minimized drag and striking design.

The front fascia of the GTstreet with retractable carbon-fiber splitter produces downforce on the front axle and provides radiator, oil coolers and brakes with more cooling air, thanks to its large, striking air inlets. The auxiliary headlamp units with daytime running lights and fog lamps improve active safety. They also give the car even more passing clout.

The TechArt GTstreet fender flares on the front axle add 10 mm to the two-door’s width and give it an even more dynamic appearance. But that’s not all: The air outlets behind the front wheel houses optimize brake venting. The larger air ducts in the rear sidewalls provide engine and intercoolers with a larger supply of cooling air. For an optimal transition between front and rear fenders the TechArt designers have developed rocker panels that complement the new contours. TechArt mirror and headlamp moldings provide the finishing touches.

The TechArt roof spoiler extends the roofline and optimizes airflow to the adjustable rear airfoil of the GTstreet.

The TechArt GTstreet rear fascia with integrated carbon-fiber diffuser contributes to the strong downforce generated on the rear axle. It also provides the perfect backdrop for the quad exhaust of the TechArt high-performance exhaust system.

TechArt Automobildesign offers a number of versions of its popular Formula wheel in sizes 8.5Jx20 in front and 12Jx20 on the rear axle. GTstreet buyers can choose from several color combinations and between the one-piece Formula and the multi-piece Formula II designs. The Formula II wheel features an exchangeable wheel lip. For optimal tires TechArt chose ContiSportContact 3 high-performance tires in sizes 245/30 ZR 20 and 325/25 ZR 20.

The large 20-inch wheels also provide the necessary space for the especially powerful and durable TechArt high-performance brake system. It features six-piston aluminum fixed calipers and 390-millimeter discs on the front axle. The rear axle is fitted with 365-millimeter discs and four-piston fixed calipers.

The TechArt GTstreet comes with a TechArt VarioPlus coil-over suspension that is based on the electronically adjustable PASM damping system of the 911 Turbo. This chassis allows individual ride-height lowering by up to 25 millimeters and push-button selection of two different damper settings, “Normal” or “Sport.” However, the dampers are not limited to these presets. Sporty driving automatically results in firmer damper settings in both modes, thus combining excellent ride comfort during normal driving with agile and responsive handling during fast cornering.

The cockpit of the TechArt GTstreet also differs distinctly from the stock 911 Turbo. Among the differences is an exclusive leather interior with color-contrasted stitching and sporty CarboBlack highlights. The coupe is further equipped with an ergonomically shaped TechArt sport steering wheel, aluminum foot pedals, foot rest and shifter, as well as with illuminated door sills sporting the TechArt logo.

Porsche 997 GT2 R by Edo Competition, the regular Porsche GT2 was given a series of enhancements in the areas of brakes, suspension, engine, transmission, aerodynamics, exhaust system, interior and wheels. Gemballa has been able to squeeze out a further 60 horsepower and 20 Nm more torque for the V10, slicing off 0.1 seconds off the time it takes to go from 0-100km/h. The added performance has also been aided by a new, fully stainless steel exhaust system has now four tail pipes instead of the standard two. The most conspicuous change to the front are the additional air intakes on the new front spoiler. In the area between the wheel housing and door Gemballa has replaced the standard side panels with its own mudguards, with reshaped openings which blend harmoniously with the original design. Down below, new side skirts lend the vehicle a muscular line. They also come with a cooling vent for the breaks at the rear. The racing look is enhanced by the new rear skirt, with its aerodynamically optimized mid-section for more downforce on the rear axle.

The PORSCHE GT1

Porsche developed a fully road-legal version of the GT1 racing car and delivered the first car in early 1996. For road use and to meet European emissions laws the engine had to be slightly de-tuned, although it’s 544 PS (600 HP) and a dry weight of 1,100 kg (2,200 lbs) made the car extremely fast. The street vehicle could accelerate to 100 km/h (62 mph) from a standstill in 3.5 seconds on its way to a top speed (193 mph).

The purpose built racing 911 GT1 made its debut in the BPR Global GT Series at the Brands Hatch 4 hours, Stuck and Boutsen won, followed up by winning at Spa and Kelleners and Collard at Zhuhai in 1996.

The ‘96 GT1 produced around 600 horsepower and was clocked at a top speed of 204 mph on the legendary Mulsanne Straight in the practice sessions of the 1996 Le Mans 24 Hours Race.

The PORSCHE GT1 Historic Re-creation

This one, if not the most, incredible PORSCHE historic re-creation “replica” ever produced. Unlike one other GT1 replica that was fabricated from a boxster, this PORSCHE GT1 re-creation was purpose built race-like using a chrome-molly tubular chassis, carbon fiber and fiberglass body and components weighing in at around 2,385 lbs.

This PORSCHE GT1 historic re-creation was originally conceived as a purebred that would incorporate a 600-700 hp twin turbocharged 911 turbo race engine, 911 turbo 6 speed gear box and many other near and like GT1 designed parts and components to build a car that would handle and be very fast as was the original PORSCHE GT1.

During the building of the car the planned engine to be used was lost leaving the project at a stand still until a new engine could be found. Finding an exotic engine like the GT1 power plant would be hard if not impossible but the car must have an engine that would produce about the same horsepower delivering a power to weight ration of 3.8-1 for the project to be successful and for the car to deliver the GT1 performance as originally planned.

After months of an exhaustive search it was decided that the PORSCHE engine wanted for the car could not be found and would be very cost prohibitive to build or have built a twin turbocharged PORSCHE engine with all of the original like components to deliver the performance of the PORSCHE GT1 of 600+ horsepower.

To assure the completion of the best possible over all PORSCHE GT1 historic re-creation, a 500 hp plus engine was needed. It was decided that the best choice for the horsepower out-put and weight would be a high performance late model Corvette engine that would be used until a like or GT1 engine was found. The Corvette engine would provide the horsepower and torque needed to deliver the GT1 driving performance.

The project was finished early in 2005 and the car IS magnificent delivering incredible performance amazing handling and catch your breath acceleration and breaking.

Operating a car like the GT1 on the street is no easy task however, a set of air bags were specifically fitted in the front of the car utilizing an auxiliary air pump to rise the front of the car when maneuvering in high ground elevations as to not scratch or damage the under nose of the car. This feature was not used on the original GT1 but would have benefited greatly from this system for road use.
